The woman came in and smiled at the cashier. “May I have a piece of your red velvet cake?” she asked. The section of dark cake with rich cream cheese frosting was removed from under the glassed-in counter and placed on waxed tissue paper. As the cashier handed the package to the woman she said, “This is just the way my Mom used to make this cake and it makes me think of her whenever I eat it.”

The Bake Shoppe, located in Windsor heights, has brought the fine art of comfort and specialty cake baking to Des Moines. The Bake Shoppe creates the signature Champagne Cakes, Cheese Cakes, Bars and other fine Dessert Pastries baked fresh each day.
