June 2008 Podcasts - Entrepreneurs Who Make Life Delicious
Wonderful glorious summer! Lush green everything. Hot days that simmer into lengthy evenings for basking with a chilled glass and tasty meals on the deck. It's June and I'm thinking food so this month Entrepreneur People. Real Stories is talking with businesses that bring us great things to eat.
In this photo you see David (my good man) and I are enjoying a pint together on our recent trip to Europe. That's how I came across one of the guests interviewed this month. Can you guess which one that might be? Enjoy!
June 3: David and I made our pilgrimage to Mount Horeb to pay homage to THE MOST IMPORTANT CONDIMENT IN THE WORLD . . . MUSTARD. Fortunately we only had to travel for 4 and half hours to Mount Horeb and the home of the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum to fulfill our quest. We laughed, we sampled, and sometimes we cried (when the mustard was particularly hot) and had a blast. Barry Levenson CMO (Chief Mustard Officer) and curator of the museum tells a GREAT story with fantastic humor. Business can be tasty and FUN!!!
June 10: Have a seat, drink a pint, and sing a song at The Royal Oak. In this interview we visit with the mother-daughter team of May McKenzie and her daughter Heather. They own and operate a fine pub found in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Heather and May explain how they began their business together, the atmosphere of Royal Oak, the unique issues of the pub business in Scotland, and where they are headed in their venture.
June 17:Iowa may be known for ham but La Quercia is probably not what some would have in mind. In this interview we “sample” prosciutto that’s receiving accolades near and far for its superior quality. Based in Norwalk, Iowa Herb Eckhouse and his family have mastered the art of cured meats and gained the attention of national and international restaurateurs, food critiques, and media everywhere. We were delighted to get the chance to speak with Herb about his wonderful business here in the heart of the Midwest.
June 24: It’s a smooth finish that goes down like “buddaw”. Templeton Rye is a whiskey recognized by aficionados in the Midwest and across the country for its great taste and infamous history. Templeton Rye, based in Templeton, Iowa, is now in legitimate production and in high demand. In this interview we talk with Scott Bush about the specific issues that go into the business of making spirits, building inventory, and reaching new goals for the next phase of this whiskey that was once the bootleggers gold standard.
